Episode 9 : Jay's Pirate Video

Ai Ai Captain!
This week is all about drama and production and our students at Avalon Heights certainly manage to produce plenty of drama!
Jay decides he’ll turn his hand to making a short pirate movie, but when everyone hears about his plans, his ‘low key’ idea of using just Aaron, Frankie and himself as the cast is ruined when ALL students want a piece of the pirate ship!
Meanwhile, Amy is feeling most disgruntled after performing a piano/vocal piece in Toone’s music class and being told that her lack of passion was a prime example of how ‘no focus can ruin a potentially wonderful performance!’
Talk about hitting a raw nerve! After such news Amy begins to babble on about herself to the others but before she can say ‘I am passionate about what I do’ she’s lost her voice – completely! No sound at all is coming out. Not the best result for a loud mouthed sassy American who gets her message across with too much chat!
The problem is discussed over dinner when Ollie, Jay Amy and Khush try to work out why Amy’s voice has gone walkabouts. Whilst the others try to decipher the problem, Felix can’t help but bring a little sarcasm to the table by suggesting that maybe it’s because her voice is so fed up of her chat that it’s gone on strike! Sweet! At least Amy’s facial expressions are still in tact, honestly, if looks could kill….
Meanwhile, Jay is approached by a dressed up, ready made leading lady pirate…yes, you guessed it, keen bean Natalie is at the ready to play female role….again! Followed very closely by Frankie, in exactly the same outfit, also ready for the leading lady role! OK things are getting out of hand – who on earth is Jay going to choose?
Back in the costume cupboard, Daisy and Hannah are now hoping for some pirate input. AAARRGHH – why is everyone so keen to jump on board? Daisy wants to be make up artist, Hannah wants to be stylist, Stacey’s busy writing scripts for Jay, Calvin’s adding a new role so he can play a highwayman, Ollie and Khush are writing a song for the production and well, you already know the leading lady dilemma!
Seems everyone’s having fun on this production apart from the main guy himself…Jay! He’s had enough and runs off to gather his thoughts
And what of out muted friend Amy? When she goes to see Toone to explain (in writing) that she’s not sick but has lost her voice, he explains that her thinking cars are not listening to her feeling cars and there’s no room for manoeuvre. Toone’s advice is to ‘get out there, listen to the drivers and start directing traffic!’
She may be sassy, but at least her loss of voice means she can listen to people these days and 5 minutes later she’s back on the piano, playing her piece with feeling! Toone overhears her performance and can’t believe how much better she is. She may have lost her voice, but she’s certainly held onto her talent!
And now, It’s time for her to go out and gather her thoughts, that is, until she slips, falls down the side of the rocky edge and can’t shout for help!
‘HELP’ doesn’t make much of an impression when it’s not accompanied by sound!
As luck would have it, our distressed director, Jay sees the silent damsel in distress and manages to pull her to safety and as he climbs down to help her, Ollie and Felix(who are out looking for him) see the action, happen to have the camera and film the whole thing! Ha – a well turned out, brilliantly acted, low key movie that Jay wanted all along! And – one that Toone is impressed with too!
Things look like they’re working themselves out for the best, Jay’s got the film he wanted, no-one has interfered, he hasn’t let anyone down and when he goes to rescue Amy, she listens to what he’s got to say and tells him he has to learn how to say ‘NO’ when things start to get out of hand!
Did she just TELL him that? Indeed she did! The voice has returned and everything is back to normal again!
Great, Amy’s experience has chilled her out whilst Jay and his new found ‘NO’ has become absolutely ridiculous! Every question is answered with a loud, sharp, ‘NO’. Will he ever be reasonable again….
